It’s the mistake we all make every year, but still never correct: overstocking matzah in advance of Passover… And worst of all, being left with way too many leftovers well after the 7 days are over.
This year, Dan Freeman, also known as @thepastagay on Tik Tok, is sparing us the trouble. He’s figured out a way to turn matzah into pasta. Yup, you heard that right!
Check out the viral Tik Tok below:
Freeman posted the video on March 29, and within the day, it had already garnered almost 500 thousand views!
“For when you’re tired of matzo pizza 😅,” he wrote as his caption.
Perhaps what makes this recipe so great is that it requires lots of matzah to create enough faux-flour — making it the perfect way to use up all that leftover matzah!
Here’s Freeman’s recipe:
- Mix 1 cup of matzo cake meal (or crush your own) with 2 eggs, 1 egg yolk, pinch of salt and 2 tbsp of olive oil.
- Mix until clumps form. Add a little water if dry. Form a ball and knead until smooth (5 mins or so). Wrap and plastic and let sit for 15 mins
- Roll out by hand or with machine, then cut into strips. Cook in salted boiling water for 3-5 mins.
But the real question is: does it taste good?
“I mean there’s definitely still a slight matzo taste and the texture is a little different than real pasta, but it’s surprisingly pretty good!” Freeman wrote in response to a comment on the video.
One user tried it out and gave it a positive review. “Way better than commercial kosher for Passover pasta,” wrote @jennyraera.
