Shobha (“Fori”) Nehru was an artistocratic Indian woman married to BK Nehru, the former Ambassador of India to the United Stated and nephew of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. While clearly a part of the Indian aristocracy, she was born and raised a Hungarian Jew. Gilbert would end up writing letters to her which were published as a book on Jewish history called Letters to Auntie Fori: The 5,000-Year History of the Jewish People and Their Faith.
