In Bardugo’s latest novel, “The Familiar,” the protagonist uses magic derived from her Ladino refranes (sayings) to improve her life in Madrid.
“Luna is a rebellious character who was born way ahead of her time. She has dreams and hopes that are not suited for the 1930s in Jerusalem,” Or told Unpacked.
Ladino represents the Jewish story, a story that is constantly evolving.
