You probably haven’t seen too many headlines that mention Omer Fedi— except maybe the ones about him dating TikToker Addison Rae. He’s a behind-the-scenes kinda guy, but the 22 year-old producer and musician has been making big waves in the music industry. In fact, he’s been called the “secret weapon” behind multiple mega chart-toppers.

The Israel-born, Los Angeles-based guitarist, producer and songwriter has worked on a growing number of hits including co-writing and co-producing 24kGoldn and Iann Dior’s massive “Mood,” The Kid LAROI and Justin Beiber’s “Stay” and Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” all which have well-surpassed a billion streams on Spotify.

MTV has named Fedi a prodigy, claiming that “In many ways, Fedi is the architect behind pop’s new sound. With a keen ear for crafting hooks and the technical training to execute them, no one is better suited to soundtrack the future.”

Here’s everything we know about his Jewish identity (plus a few other fun facts):

The Basics

Omer Fedi was born on March 25, 2000 in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Jewish parents.

Here’s a family photo of Omer with his parents, and his two brothers, Guy and Ben. (You might not recognize Omer without his signature bright red hair, but that is indeed him wearing a black snapback in 2017.)

His dad is a celebrated Israeli drummer

Fedi gets his musical genes from his dad, Asher Fedi. In his 25 years as a professional drummer, Asher has worked with Israeli mega-stars including Shlomo Artzi and Shalom Hanoch.

Up until 2015, Asher was working with Eyal Golan, once Israel’s number one recording artist known in the country as the “King of Pop.”

In an interview with Billboard, Omer described his dad as “the biggest drummer ever in Israel.”

The father-son duo collabed on a Miley Cyrus commercial

“Thank u @mileycyrus and @gucci for having me playin drums in this new commercial 🙏🏼🤘🏼had fun collaborating with my son @omerfedi on this one, many more to come,” Asher shared on this Instagram.

Fedi was inspired by Drake Bell

Asher Fedi taught Omer to play drums from a young age, but at ten, he began pursuing guitar instead. Apparently, he was inspired by Drake Bell’s character from the Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh.

He moved to Los Angeles at 16 to pursue music

Fedi and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was 16. He immediately enrolled in Calabasas High School and joined his school’s Jazz band, where his love for music intensified. His playing would fill school auditoriums for shows normally only attended by performers’ parents, MTV reported.

“He was so far ahead of everyone else in terms of his fluency on the instrument and his harmonic ability,” a jazz clinician who volunteered at the school said. “Nothing got in his way. He could speak through the instrument.”

Jazz inspires his work today

Though Fedi mainly works on hip hop and pop songs, his Jazz training underscores his work.

In 2020, Fedi was spotted hanging out at Diplo’s house, making music with Dominic Fike, and playing jazz live from Charlie Puth’s Instagram.

He likes being behind the scenes

“I’m really happy and excited about everything that’s happening right now,” Fedi said in an interview. “But I try to keep my head down and just make good music.”

He’s pretty lowkey on Instagram

Fedi occasionally posts about songs he’s working on, but don’t hold your breath for too much more. He doesn’t even have a profile picture.
